Bronson DHEA® Supplement — Information Guide

Bronson DHEA® is an OTC DHEA supplement. DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone precursor naturally produced by the adrenal glands. This page provides educational information. Voshell's Pharmacy does not sell or endorse this product.

Key Safety Considerations

  • OTC DHEA supplements are not regulated as prescription medications and have not been evaluated by the FDA for efficacy or safety.
  • DHEA can be converted in the body to both estrogen and testosterone, which means it may interact with existing hormone therapy and with medications that are sensitive to estrogen or androgen levels.
  • Patients on prescription HRT (estradiol, progesterone, testosterone) should not add OTC DHEA without prescriber review, as it may create unpredictable hormone levels.
  • Patients on blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or other prescription drugs should consult a prescriber before adding DHEA.

⚠ DHEA is a biologically active precursor hormone. Taking it without clinical oversight can lead to unpredictable androgen or estrogen effects. This is especially important for patients with hormone-sensitive conditions.

When Compounded Options May Be Considered

When a prescriber determines that DHEA supplementation is clinically appropriate, compounded DHEA in patient-specific doses and forms may be available. This requires a valid prescription and clinical evaluation.

Bottom Line

OTC DHEA is not equivalent to a prescriber-directed compounded preparation. A prescriber should determine whether DHEA use is appropriate and how it fits with the patient’s broader therapy plan.

OTC SUPPLEMENT NOTICE

This page discusses an over-the-counter (OTC) supplement. OTC supplements are not prescription medications, are not evaluated by the FDA for efficacy or safety in the same way as prescription drugs, and are not compounded preparations.

Voshell's Pharmacy does not endorse, recommend, or sell this OTC product. Patients considering OTC hormone supplements should consult a licensed prescriber before use, especially if they are also taking prescription medications.

If you are looking for patient-specific, prescriber-guided hormone therapy, compounded preparations from Voshell's Pharmacy may be an option — as determined by your prescriber.
