How to Take Rogaine

How to Take Rogaine (Minoxidil Topical)

Per OTC labeling, the following steps reflect standard instructions for applying Rogaine (minoxidil topical solution/foam).

  • Use on dry scalp and dry hair: Per OTC labeling, make sure your scalp is fully dry before applying.
  • Per OTC labeling, adults apply 1 mL twice daily: This applies to the 2% and 5% solutions. If using 5% foam, apply half a capful twice daily as directed on the label.
  • Apply directly to the thinning areas: Part the hair so the medication reaches the scalp.
  • Gently massage in: Use fingertips to spread it lightly across the area.
  • Wash hands afterward: Per OTC labeling, prevent accidental transfer to other skin areas.
  • Allow the scalp to air-dry completely: Per OTC labeling, typically about 2–4 minutes for foam and 10–15 minutes for solution before styling.
  • Apply styling products only after it dries.
  • Per OTC labeling, use consistently: Apply at roughly the same times each day. If you forget a dose, continue at the next scheduled time.
  • Per OTC labeling, if using once daily (men's 5% foam option): Apply half a capful once daily to the affected areas as directed on the label.
  • Do not double up doses: Per OTC labeling, if you forget a dose, apply the next one at the normal time.
