What Happens If You Miss a Dose of Duavee

What Happens If You Miss a Dose of Duavee?

According to FDA-approved prescribing information for Duavee, if you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose; if so, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule — do not take two tablets to make up a missed dose.

Duavee (conjugated estrogens/bazedoxifene) is taken once daily as an oral tablet. Per FDA-approved prescribing information for Duavee, the following guidance applies:

  • If you remember within about 12 hours of your usual time, per FDA-approved prescribing information for Duavee, take the missed tablet right away and then take the next dose at the regular scheduled time.
  • If it is more than about 12 hours (or very close to your next scheduled dose), per FDA-approved prescribing information for Duavee, skip the missed tablet and continue with the usual once‑daily dose the next day.
  • If you vomit or have significant diarrhea within 1–2 hours after taking Duavee, treat the situation as a missed dose and follow the same label guidance above; contact your prescriber if this occurs repeatedly.
  • Do not double your dose unless directed by your prescriber. Per FDA-approved prescribing information for Duavee, do not take additional doses to make up for a missed dose, as taking more than the prescribed amount may increase the chance of side effects such as nausea, breast tenderness, headache, dizziness, or unusual bleeding.
  • If you accidentally take an extra tablet, per FDA-approved prescribing information for Duavee, the FDA labeling describes cardiovascular events, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), endometrial cancer, breast cancer, and probable dementia in women 65+ as serious events associated with estrogen-containing products; patients who experience symptoms such as chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, fainting, or a painful swollen leg should contact their prescriber promptly. Whether any individual symptom warrants intervention depends on personal health factors that a clinician must assess, and published guidance from NAMS or ACOG informs how prescribers evaluate them.
  • If you miss several days or stop and restart, contact your prescriber. Missing multiple doses may allow return of menopausal symptoms or may cause breakthrough bleeding; your prescriber may advise whether any follow-up is needed.
  • Contact your prescriber if doses are missed repeatedly or if symptoms change, especially new or unexpected bleeding, severe side effects, or signs consistent with events described in the Duavee prescribing information for estrogen-containing products — including cardiovascular events, DVT, PE, or other serious concerns. Per FDA-approved prescribing information for Duavee and published guidance from NAMS or ACOG, patients who experience any of these symptoms should contact their prescriber promptly, as whether intervention is warranted depends on personal health factors that a clinician must assess.
