What Is Harmony Estra-Pro Blend

Harmony Estra-Pro Blend is the name Voshell's Pharmacy uses for a compounded preparation related to combined estrogen-progesterone hormone therapy. Compounded medications are not reviewed by FDA for safety or effectiveness before dispensing and are prepared by a licensed pharmacist only in response to a valid prescription for an individual patient.

What it is, simply

Ingredients: 17β-estradiol (estrogen) and micronized progesterone (progestogen). How it works: According to NAMS (The Menopause Society), estradiol therapy may reduce vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats; progesterone is added in women with a uterus to help protect the uterine lining from estrogen-driven overgrowth. Form: topical (cream or gel) for transdermal absorption; compounded to allow dose and base customization under prescriber direction.

  • Potential benefits: symptomatic relief and dosing flexibility when a commercially available product does not meet individual patient needs, as determined by a qualified prescriber.
  • Risks and limitations: According to the ACOG Practice Bulletin on Hormone Therapy, combined estrogen-progestogen therapy is not appropriate for individuals with active estrogen-sensitive malignancy, a history of recent venous thromboembolism, or uncontrolled cardiovascular disease. All decisions should be made with a qualified prescriber.
  • Monitoring: Ongoing symptom review, routine preventive care (mammogram, blood pressure), and individualized dosing adjustments are standard practice; consult a qualified prescriber.

Compounded hormone preparations are not reviewed by FDA for safety or effectiveness before dispensing. They are prepared by a licensed pharmacist only in response to a valid prescription for an individual patient. Commercially available hormone therapy options should be considered first when they meet patient needs. Clinical decisions about hormone therapy should be made with a qualified prescriber.

Key Product Features

Estradiol and Vasomotor Symptoms

  • According to NAMS (The Menopause Society), estradiol has been studied for its role in reducing vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats during the menopausal transition. Inclusion of estradiol in a compounded preparation does not establish clinical benefit for any disease, condition, or patient outcome.

Progesterone and Uterine Endometrium

  • According to the ACOG Practice Bulletin on Hormone Therapy, progesterone plays a role in opposing estrogen stimulation of the uterine lining in women with a uterus who use estrogen therapy. Inclusion of progesterone in a compounded preparation does not establish clinical benefit for any disease, condition, or patient outcome.

Estrogen and Vaginal Tissue

  • According to the Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline on Menopause, estradiol has been studied for its involvement in maintaining vaginal tissue integrity and moisture during and after the menopausal transition. Inclusion of estradiol in a compounded preparation does not establish clinical benefit for any disease, condition, or patient outcome.

Topical Hormone Delivery and Dosing Flexibility

  • According to the Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline on Menopause, transdermal estradiol delivery has been studied for its role in systemic hormone absorption with individualized dosing under prescriber direction. Inclusion of transdermal hormone preparations in a compounding context does not establish clinical benefit for any disease, condition, or patient outcome.
